Letter #29 04/25/11

hey family!

ah, so my new companion elder eberle arrived tuesday!  and it has been
one interesting week that is for sure.    ha.    elder eberle is
actually from pennsylvania.   he{s 20 years old.  and he only has 6
more weeks in the mission than me.   he served in cardenas (the city
that elder tlachi{s in right now) before he came here.     he is
definitely an interesting guy.    to answer
your questions, we speak only in spanish which is good because i know
some companionships have problems with that when they{re both from
the US.  my companion doesnt like the apartment at all-- in his last area
he had a big house apparently.   i let him have the bed.    so now i{m
on the floor.  but its no big deal.   i actually like it better.
so elder eberle before the mission worked in a car dealership and
washed cars.   We are different but its alright
because he{s seriously diligent.  he works really hard.     i know there is a reason that we have every companion
that we have.  and there is definitely something that i need to learn
from him.  he really is diligent,
he contacts almost everyone in the street. and this is definitley one
of my weaker points! contacting is not one of my favorite things!  i
really dont think i{ll be here in this area for much more time. so i{m
going to enjoy the time i have here with my american companion.

anyway.  sorry to hear slaters been sick. yikes! that bites!   i hope
he gets feeling better soon!

well i gtg, love ya all, talk to ya next week!

Letter #28 04/18/11 Goodbye Elder Tlachi!

hey guys   =)

well the transfers have finally come!!! but i{m not moving -- elder
tlachi is though!! ah!!!! yikes!  i dont know how i feel about this.  these
past few months have been pretty crazy and elder tlachi
is like a brother to me.   easily transfers are the worst thing about
the mission.   you spend so much time getting to know someone and then
you have to say goodbye and not see them again.  bah.    but
its all good.  he{s going to a city called Cardenas, in tabasco i
believe but i{m not sure.    i{m going to stay here in Coatza.  and my
new companero va a ser elder Eberle,  and he{s from Utah!!!. woot.   i
havent met him yet but i{ve seen his pic.     it should be
interesting,  he looks a little nerdy.  he has glasses.   but idk what
i{m saying, i have glasses too. bahaha.   idk,  i guess i{m sad that
elder tlachi{s going but at the same time its going to be a new and
good experience to start working with someone new.  and hopefully we
can start to have some progress here.    we have a lot of investigators
that are close to baptismo!!

This past week we baptized J,  elder tlachi told me he sent you a
picture!     ah it was so cool,  the president called us at the start
of the week and told us that we should find someone to baptize for the
end of the week.   and we didnt have any baptismal dates set for this
week.  but wednesday we went
to J's house not looking for him in specific, we went to eat dinner
with his family.  but God set up the perfect situation for us.  his
mom and M arrived about an hour late,  and so we had time to talk
with J, and the conversation started out with talking about soccer,
and idk how but suddenly everything changed.   thats
easily the most rewarding part about missionary work.      the change
that we see in peoples lives.   M, J and their mom C came to
church yesterday.   L blessed the sacrament. J was
confirmed a member,  M gave the closing prayer in sacrament
meeting.  ah it was all just too great.

-- anyway, thanks for your emails this week,  glad to hear your
vacation went well.  sad to hear about coach stout.  i cant imagine
what that would be like to lose a parent that early.  it would
definitely be difficult.  sin embargo, we can always find solace in the
plan of salvation,  that gives us the firm knowledge that we can be
with our family forever.  that god has a plan for our families that
is much greater than this small time that we have here on earth. the
family is eternal in nature.

anyway.   thanks so much for the package  you sent me and tlachi.
those pictures were awesome.  ah jackson looks crazy different.  i
cant believe it.   dad looks a little different too. slater and mom
look about the same =)    the extended family all look great too.
grandpa looks more healthy and he sounded great on the tape!!
exciting to hear about bryce and steve!!
i cant believe that its coming that fast.    i dont feel like i{ve
been out for very long.  yikes!

tell grandma and ronette thanks for sending me emails too.  i love to
get them, i wish i had more time to send them emails. i{m going to
work on making more time to write them! =)

well i gtg,  sorry this letter is short again.  i wrote my president a
little bit longer letter today. sorry

love y´all a bunch

elder lloyd

Letter #27 04/11/11 Earthquake!!!

well the letter to you guys is going to be short this week because i{m
jealous that youre in disneyland =P
--
everythings good here
--
with love, elder lloyd

just kidding.
but really i hope you all are having a fun time.  having a bit of a
break from the cold weather in utah!  you{ll have to tell me how your
trip went and send me some pics!!

this week has been really good.  we had 6 investigators in church
sunday, and 2 of them have baptism dates for the 23 of april.  elder
tlachi and i are pretty excited about that. only that we may not be
around to see it.   i{ve got a feeling one of us still will be here
but not the two of us.    this is the last week of the cambio and we
have a chance of changing this next week.  but we wont know till
sunday in the night.   i{ve got a feeling its going to be elder tlachi
that goes and i{m going to stay for a bit longer.  but idk.  we{ll see
what happens.

so you{ve got a new bishop!  bishop rose!  ah thats so cool.  he{ll do
such a great job.  bishop hamiltan was one of the most incredible
bishops i{ve ever know.  he had such love and a huge testimony, he
helped me so much and i know he{s helped so much the other youth in
the ward.  he was a great example of a man who really magnified his
calling.      but theres one thing i{ve definitely learned here,  and
thats that the lord calls people to the work and then qualifies them
for the job.  and whoever the lord calls will be qualified and
strengthed in ways they cant even imagine.  bishop rose will do a
great job.

speaking of the roses,  hows cade doing? feeling more confident with
the language.  i know that about around 4 months i was starting to
feel better about where i was at.  especially with understanding.  if
he hasnt picked it up yet he will soon.

i{m glad you liked the videos.  i thought they were a bit awkward. and
i really didnt think they would be that dificult to do.  but i{m glad
they turned out alright.     hows landon doing,   is he still
preparing-- tell him the most important thing to do is read the book
of mormon. and if he has time he should read a marvelous work and a
wonder-- because its really good and you{ll never have time to read it
in the field.

also-- earthquake.  legit!  holy cow.  it was in the middle of
personal scripture study and my companion gets frustrated and says
-- elder lloyd, stop moving the table -- and i{m like, you stop moving
the table. and we look up and the whole room starts to shake. but it
was short.   i actually would have ranked it like a 4 out of 10 on the
impressive scale,  but it was cool because it as my first.      there
wasnt any damage in coatza.  and no one was injured here that i know
of.  but i think there was some damage in other cities.  idk.

well i{m going to send some emails to some friends.
but i{ll talk to you all more next week.
w- love -- elder lloyd

Letter #26 04/04/11 General Conference!

ah, its so good to be writing you all again.   this week went so fast
idk why. probably because of conference.  i was looking forward to it
all week.  conference has got to be like a superbowl game for
missionaries. ah it was so good.
yes we did get to watch all sessions!   i was so happy.  my companion
and i were looking forward to it.   L came to two sessions
and M only went to one because of work.  but they both came to
priesthood sesssion and basically priesthood session was so powerful.
i watched conference in english with about 7 other missionaries from
the states. we watched it live stream on the internet.  it was
interesting watching it with all missionaries ha.   but to answer your
questions, they dont have subtitles for the mexicans, the conference
is translated as it happens, like one person who{s actually there at
the conference translates it as its happening and they can hear the
spanish voice but not the voice of the person whos talking.   i was
glad i could watch it in my own language.  idk,  i{m sure i would have
understood it all. but idk, there{s just something different about
being able to hear the actual voice of the apostles and the prophet.
all the talks were so good, but i loved the talk by Richard G Scott,
when he talked about his wife, you could really feel the love that he
has for her.  i loved the talks in priesthood, especially the talk by
the prophet. it was powerful.  all the missionaries were talking about
how they{re going to come back from the mish and get married the next
month because the prophet said if we{re of marrying age we should be
looking for marriage =) haha.  but i think the things that i came away
with most from the conference is a greater desire to be a better
disciple of jesus christ. to increase in obedience, diligence and
love.  several of the speakers talked about being real disciples or
followers of jesus crist.

so this week,

as for L,  he{s excited to get the priesthood and will
probably be getting it this coming sunday if all goes as planned

our other investigators are a bit weak right now. we only have 5
progressing.  so we need to get working.  but i{ll tell you more about
them next week.

so i got two packages today and a letter from kim and grandma and
grandpa lloyd!
i wasnt sure which was the easter one - the one that i wasnt suppose to
open, so i just ended up guessing, but i guessed wrong and
accidentally opened the easter one.  but i didnt see much other than
the pics of jackson.  so i{m still saving it till later in the month
=)

i feel like one seriously spoiled missionary.  holy cow.    thank you
so much family for writing me every week and talking into the tapes
even when it seems odd to speak to a recorder.     i got a good feeling
of that this past monday when i recorded your videos! yikes.  those
are most definitely some of the more awkward things ever. ha.   just
so you know, in those videos theres one for ben, and one for mike.
one for the priest quorum,  one of me speaking spanish and one of me
and elder tlachi singing.   you can watch all of them.  but the one to
ben and mike probably wont interest you much.
i had no idea how hard it would be to speak in english. holy
cow.   and more than that, speak in english to a camera.   the one in
spanish is probably the least awkward.  ha. it felt weird to be
speaking in english again. yikes.  but hopefully you{ll like them.
sorry i didnt send one to the family.   i didnt have much time after i
filmed the other ones. it was kind of last minute.    but the next one
hopefully will have more.

well i love you all,  i{ve got to write to my pres.  but hopefully i
can chat w- you all in a minute!

elder lloyd
